| Neon (pronounced /ˈniːɒn/) is the chemical element that has the symbol Ne and atomic number 10. Although a very common element in the universe, it is rare on Earth. |
Neon Conversation Piece
Museum of Neon Art (MONA)
A neon museum should have a moniker befitting a sultry lady—and like its name, everything about MONA is predictably unpredictable. As a good niche museum should, MONA takes its subject and explores it from all angles, allowing the visitor to consider the oft overlooked in new ways.
Of course, in the one room exhibition, there are the de rigueur neon beer and motel signs, but here they are refreshingly punctuated with contemporary art using neon and a subtle appreciation of what makes each piece unique. With a giant neon diving lady hanging from the middle of the room, you’ll know you’ve come to the right place.
If you find yourself particularly taken, you might just sign up for one of their neon- making classes to learn to make your own neon creations. Or take a night-time neon cruise in an open top bus through the streets of LA. At the very least, it’ll give you something to muse on and talk about. Starting with neon, who knows where your conversation will go…One thing we’re sure of, it’ll be electrifying.
Tip: If you go on a Sunday when Warung Café is closed, have a coffee and a snack afterward at the very urban Lost Souls Café—just go down the alley next to the museum, you’ll find it at the end.

Warung Cafe
The ultimate neighborhood eatery, if it were next door, you’d go there all the time and going just once you’ll feel just as comfortable as if you did. Their haikuesque motto says it all: A little place. To get away. And eat small plates. Of good food.
With minimalist, zen-spa (minus the spa) décor, Warung Café is the perfect place to relax, chat and spend as much time as you like ordering innovative asian-inspired tapas plates and sipping cool sake from their well-curated selection.
Though the service tends toward the bumbling, they are earnest in their attempts. You will find an easy atmosphere with good food (we can’t get enough of the Indian curry chicken salad) and flights of sake (Datebook’s favorite is The Mighty 7)—or should we say flights of fancy? You decide.
