The Big Bu
Getty Villa
Spend an afternoon in a seaside villa surrounded by the fine arts of antiquity--and don’t worry there’s plenty of wine and you’re not here to get a PhD.
The collection at the Getty Villa focuses on the arts and culture of ancient Greece, Rome and Etruria (It’s in Italy, we didn’t know either). Unlike the collection at the Getty Center Museum, the collection at the Villa is quite edited. Rather than overwhelmed you are inspired. Imagination and conversation are free to roam as you stroll enjoying not only the art, but the exquisite Villa itself, which is a replica of the 2000 year old Villa de Papiri, uncovered in the excavations at Herculaneum.
And there was that earlier mention of wine? Of course, who could approximate the Mediterranean without it? The café overlooking the museum has a lovely terrace and sells wine by the bottle or the glass—when you experience that mind-numbing, I’ve-seen-too-many-stone-heads feeling.
Tip: Look for the Cycladic art and marvel at how ancient and modern minds think alike.

Moonshadows - Blue Lounge
Clear your mind and senses and get down to some serious unwinding right off the PCH. With cordials, a memorable Kobe beef burger and a sunset to brag to your east coast cronies about, this place is the solution for how to get out of the city without even trying.
Grab a booth or couch on the ocean view patio for the full effect. DJ’s are often a part of the experience in an ambient non -Night At The Roxbury- sort of way. You’ll find it hard to leave but fear not, your sound machine does have a “wave” button.
If the mood is right, Flipper and his friends gather round to toast to your day in the “Bu”.
