The Italian Coast gets The Blues

Harvelle's

Lookin' for a lively joint you say? But you also want to lie low and keep it sexy, dark and swanky? We gotcha covered.

Local, national and international artists gather and get funk, R&B, soul and jazz flowing at Harvelle's. Established in 1931, Harvelle's is the oldest live music venue on the Westside. With low lights and red leather booths that line the intimate space, it's the perfect place to cozy up and get soulful.

Whether it's Funky Mondays, Bongo Fury (A fierce Afro-Cuban Jazz and cabaret), an eleven piece R&B review, The Toledo Show (unadulterated soul) or Etta James sax man Jimmy Z, Harvelle's has something for you. When a cocktail list provides provacative names for its martinis (Gluttony, Lust or Wrath), you know you're in the right place.

Be sure to consult the website for their monthly calendar as shows and events are always changing.

Riva

With a menu inspired by the cuisine of the Italian Riviera, Riva makes a worthwhile distraction off the 3rd St. Promenade.

This sister restaurant to Fraiche truly delivers. Chef Jason Travi's menu consists of crudo (raw fish) such as fluke and cuttlefish, mouthwatering pizzas from the wood-burning oven topped with the likes of potato, rosemary, fontina and sea salt and main dishes such as a Kurobuta pork chop and monkfish saltimbocca. We implore you not to let the torta della nonna go unnoticed. Riva has its own pulse --an airy feel, white walls, a sexy crowd, candles and a breeze from the ocean if you happen to be there at the right time of day.

Tip: A wonderful bar scene lends itself to one of the best happy hours in town. Monday - Sunday 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. A generous happy hour menu of well-priced wines by the glass and cocktails rounds out this nightly occasion. Our favorite $4 happy hour cocktail was the Sois Sage which consists of Sagatiba Cachaca, lime juice and sage leaves.

Ok. These prices are averages for one person eating a meal including one drink and a tip. If you play football for the Giants and eat three main courses in a sitting, you should probably expect to pay more.

$$ Middle of the Road, $11 - $30
$$$ Gettin' up there, $31 - $60
$$$$ Go baby go, $61-100
