Gigi's Lazy Afternoon
Gigi's Farmers Market
A pinch of amazing and a dash of style -- a farmers market with a fresh new approach is how the folks at the Americana are billing their new one on Saturdays. We have to agree with their assessment.
Taking over Caruso street within the Americana, the whole presentation has a European flair, a surprising step up from your typical farmers market. The booths' smart red canvas ceilings give them a distinct and uniform look. Most of the fruit and produce is displayed in wicker baskets and the flower arrangements are bursting with colors so bright, you may not be able to resist going home with an armful of Sunflowers. Some standout favorites: Tealandia's masala chai and green pomegranate packaged teas in tins, fruit cobblers sweetened with agave from Cobblermania in Culver City, Saveurs catering -- who claim to make and sell the best merguez in town (cassoulet junkies can also pick up their duck leg confit here too), Rockenwagner breads and pastries, well-priced fresh flowers, meyer lemons, fresh eggs, whole free-range chickens, mung beans, aged balsamic vinegars, fresh pastas, an extraordinary array of dried fruits which included dried pluots and dried honey figs, lemon almonds, stylish farmers market bags and demonstrations from Sur La Table to name a few.
Frida's gourmet taco bar, which offered tacos al pastor, carnitas and mole, is a great way to sit with your goods, have a little lunch and take it all in. The vendors are chatty, helpful and excited to participate. On opening day the live music included Bob Marley's Everything's Gonna be Alright. Ah, yes it is. Yes it is.

Colorado Wine Company
Sipping wine on a lazy afternoon is always a good thing. After you've gathered your goods at the farmers market, continue your charmed day and unwind with a glass of vino in the bar at the Colorado Wine Company in Eagle Rock. A friendly and hip environment that caters to everyone, no matter what your experience is with wine.
Stocking wine, beer, sake, bubblies and beer from around the world, The Colorado Wine Company focuses on unique bottles of wine, $25 and under. The backroom is an intimate, sleek space with cool artwork, a few couches, tables and a bar that isn't shy about generous pours.
If you want your date to continue into the evening, be sure and pick up a few bottles on your way out. The staff couldn't be more willing to help you. They may even cheer you on. Silently, of course.
Tip: Note the special bar hours and be sure and check their calendar for upcoming events. We also recommend Lazy Sunday Tastings which include two reds, two whites and cheese from Auntie Em's Marketplace – all for $12.
