Amoeba Music

The last of a dying breed, a Hollywood landmark and home to more than 250,000 music titles, Amoeba Music prides itself on being one of the largest music stores in the world. Put down the itunes and take a stroll up and down the aisles as you reminisce about your adolescence and how you were the lead singer in your own band --just don't cop to the fact it was an "air guitar" championship band circa 1985.

Before you depart be sure and purchase some old skool vinyl for your honey. Suggestions? "Live at Carnegie Hall" by Bill Withers, "Some Great Reward" by Depeche Mode or anything by Al Green (a la 70's) or Elvis Costello.

Tip: There is a listening station and you can also purchase cd's and dvd's.

Street

What if you could sample street food from exotic locations such as Mumbai, Istanbul, Saigon or Delhi all together in one place? Thanks to Susan Feniger's (Border Grill, Ciudad) passion for travel and food, you can. It's Feniger's upscale salute to what these vendors do oh so well. Combine the unique menu with a hip playful room --Danish modern chairs (from a schoolhouse), Huntley Muir's graphics scattered on the walls, tables topped with material for skateboards -- and you've got yourself a unique experience in the heart of the city.

The enthusiastic servers will arrive with spiced millet balls as they attempt to guide you across the world. Even though the menu will be seasonal, some of our favorite dishes were: spinach varenyky (Ukranian dumplings), kaya toast, Malaysian black clams and saag paneer. There is a chef's tasting menu as well as many vegan options. Alcohol, tonics and sweets are also there for the taking. With this kind of street food you can safely leave the Maalox at home.

Tip: We fell in love with the back patio and its giant tomato red umbrellas and fire pit. Consider this when making a reservation --there's less clamor. Live jazz happens every Thursday and Sunday night.

Ok. These prices are averages for one person eating a meal including one drink and a tip. If you play football for the Giants and eat three main courses in a sitting, you should probably expect to pay more.

$$ Middle of the Road, $11 - $30
$$$ Gettin' up there, $31 - $60
