| The theatre is so endlessly fascinating because it's so accidental. It's so much like life.

The Mark Taper Forum
If you prefer drama to musicals then make your way downtown to The Mark Taper Forum. The theater specializes in small intimate dramas and has been touted one of the top resident theaters in the county.
The Mark Taper's season includes five to six plays which run from January to December. Make your experience even more unique by attending a post play discussion on select Tuesday evening and Sunday matinees during the regular run. These informal discussions are led by artistic staff and often joined by members of the cast. Who knows, you may be able to sell your theory that After the Fall was based on Marilyn Monroe. Be sure and check their website for their current season of shows.
Tip: A pre-theater cocktail in the courtyard of the Taper/Music Center is a must. The lit up fountain and adjacent theaters create the perfect romantic setting to kick off your night. Also, Hot Tix offers $20 tickets to the general public and can be purchased in advance. To learn more about this fabulous deal call Audience Services at (213) 628-2772.

Rivera
Not a lot of places can pull off beef jerky in drinks, a chef's table with a view of the open kitchen and the essence of Mexico City now and somewhere into the next century. According to Rivera, through food and drink, the restaurant relates and celebrates the story and spirit of Latin culture around the world, from the past to the present day and on into the future.
It all starts with a tease --before your entrance, you'll notice the long horizontal window that runs along the side of the restaurant allowing passerby's a peak at the kitchen below. Upon entering you'll be seduced by the central bar run by mix master, Julian Cox (Comme Ca). Stay here for the foreplay, specialty mixed libations--may we suggest Blood Sugar Sex Magic with rhy wiskey, red pepper, basil and agave nectar or perhaps the Barbacoa which consists of chipolte paste, jalapenos, agave nectar, ginger, mezcal and topped off with a chunk of beef jerky. Next decide to settle in for the night in one of the many dining rooms. Datebook had fun at the chef's table where you can interact with the kitchen. You won't go wrong with the homemade tortillas with pressed herbs and flowers and Indian butter, the mole with a pork chop and the ahi tuna with serranos, lime and avocado.
Save room for dessert or hit the bar again for a nightcap --perhaps some vanilla infused Tequila? Let us know if you find the worm.
