For the Love of Cheese

Studio City Farmers Market

The Studio City Farmers Market is gonna love you come rain or come shine every Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Toss your canvas bag over your shoulder and let the steel drums carry you into the market. As you grab your morning coffee from Rocky Roasters (yes, they have the fancy coffee's too) get ready to explore this great resource for healthy eating that promotes our local community of artisans, food vendors and farmers.

The usual suspects await you -- fresh flowers, veggies, honey, potted herbs, eggs, poultry, citrus, etc. The kids section, complete with train rides and petting zoo, may entice you as you realize you could use some face painting to help cover up those dark circles from the night before.

Grab some pre-made food for your week -- Corn Maiden Tamales, Gourmet Soup-to-Go, Gangadin Indian Cuisine and Gourmet Mac & Cheese are to name a few.

Tip: Check out their website for seasonal recipe ideas inspired by foods at the farmers market.

Artisan Cheese Gallery

Who knew you could find a stellar collection of cheeses from all over the world in Studio City? It may be easy to miss off the main drag of Ventura Blvd., however, once you experience the Artisan Cheese Gallery, you will never forget it.

Home to over 300 cheeses and a multitude of gourmet products ranging from olive oil to truffles to raspberry white chocolate peanut butter (yum). A nice selection of wines can also be found on their well thought out shelves. This charming spot is the perfect place to relax, eat, drink and take in your Sunday afternoon.

Your experience here wouldn't be complete without a sample from the cheese bar. If the thought of Camembert and Epoisse makes you week at the knees, be sure and give them a ballpark of what you like to spend before you order, as your cheese addiction can add up fast. We loved that the freshly cut cheese was wrapped in paper to preserve its flavor. Make room for the generously sized award winning paninis which are accompanied with Breadbar bread and sweet pickles --they are a must.

Tip: The Artisan Cheese Gallery also hosts cheese tasting events which sometime involve wine and/or chocolate. Be sure to check out their website and order tickets in advance.

Ok. These prices are averages for one person eating a meal including one drink and a tip. If you play football for the Giants and eat three main courses in a sitting, you should probably expect to pay more.

$$ Middle of the Road, $11 - $30
$$$ Gettin' up there, $31 - $60
