Waves and Wine

Malibu Wines

Malibu's optimal climate and soil are responsible for numerous wines from several local vineyards. Datebook found our way to a tranquil, intimate space that is nestled above the coastline and home to Malibu Wines. With manicured lawns, bird baths, wood chairs, stone topped tables and white canvas umbrellas, you have the perfect setting for an enchanted afternoon for two.

Be prepared to be intoxicated by the ocean air and wine as you sample your flights under a ranch style stone structure open bar. Choose between the Semler flight, produced from grapes grown right in Malibu or the Saddlerock flight, comprised of grapes from the central coast of California. Questions? The knowledgeable staff will be happy to educate you on the wines and the history of the vineyard as you enjoy your tasting.

Be sure and take advantage of their bottle service after sampling the wines. Declare a table on the serene green lawn, then sit back and enjoy some live jazz as you take in the Santa Monica mountains and hopefully, your company. Smile, you're in paradise.

Tip: Pack a picnic or some gourmet cheese to accompany your wine selection.

Geoffrey's Malibu

During the 40's, this romantic hide-a-way was home to the Holiday House, where Frank Sinatra, Shirley MacLain and Lana Turner could be seen. It was even where John F. Kennedy spent part of his lengthy affair with Marilyn Monroe. In 1983, it was redesigned by Richard Neutra and became Geoffrey's Malibu (pronounced Joffreys).

With waves crashing in-between thoughts and a guaranteed panoramic view from every seat, it's easy to see why this place that overlooks the pacific is considered the most romantic "Bu" experience.

May we suggest brunch so that you are guaranteed to take in the view. We enjoyed the roasted corn chowder, the maine lobster cobb and the shiitake omelette. The bloody mary's are a must, although they may affect your star gazing and/or dolphin watch.
