The Daily Show's, Aasif Mandvi, suggests a homemade breakfast with a touch of India.
I like to make a girl breakfast – mostly because I can’t cook and breakfast is low pressure. But I also think it’s something a little different. My family is from India, so I think it’s fun to do something that incorporates that part of me. In general, I think the challenge of dating is finding ways to share unique things about yourself with the other person. The traditional Southern Indian breakfast food is Dosas.
A Dosa is kind of like an Indian crepe stuffed with potatoes and vegetables and curry. If you’re me, you go to the Indian store and buy a pack of frozen Dosas then make the stuffing yourself. If you are a cook you can make the whole thing. There’s a great recipe on Epicurious.
I also like to improvise with the fillings, since it’s essentially a crepe you can get creative. You could totally make a western Dosa filled with scrambled eggs and bacon and cheese. Or a Southwestern Dosa with Chicken, Monterrey Jack and Cilantro. My only advice is to stay away from the whole onion thing. It makes girls cry and it could affect your kissing after such a glorious meal.
Put a bowl of strawberries on the table, coffee, fresh fruit juice, a candle or two and mix a few Bollywood tunes into your music playlist. What girl could resist?
