Amy Scott, curator of the Autry National Center, helps to incorporate romance and intellect into our museum habits.

Datebook asked Amy to share some hot tips on seeking out an unusual museum experience on a date:

There is usually one night a week where a museum will stay open late. The Getty Center is open late typically on Saturday and the Hammer, Thursday. It's a nice way to change up your usual date night routine because it gives you something to connect on and it challenges you to think. The way people react to art reveals something interesting about them and you will learn something about who you are dating. Even if you've been with your partner for a while, perhaps they will see something different you didn't see and vice versa. Museums are great for people who are starting to date because you're guaranteed to have something to talk about.

Be on the hunt for tours with the curators or the artist involved in an exhibit because they are the minds behind the show's insight and you won't get these kind of tours anywhere else. Every tour is different and always unique because you'll get them talking spontaneously about the work and what is interesting about it. You can look for these tours on any museum's programming site. MOCA is a great place for finding these kinds of tours.

Any favorite tucked away museum ideas?

The Norton Simon in Pasadena has an intimate feel and the sculpture garden contains four major sculptures by Maillol that are so exciting. They are tremendously important in French and modern sculpture and are all set in a lovely garden that is sheltered from LA. You'll feel like you've dropped out of the city.

Gallery shows on a Saturday are guaranteed to be a lot less crowded. Two of my favorites are: LA Louver on N. Venice Blvd., which tends to offer mainstream and recognisable works (Hockney) but with a certain level of quality. Their opening receptions on Thursdays are free and open to the public.; and Gagosian on Camden in Beverly Hills is another little gem (Picasso, Hopper).

Santa Monica Museum of Art is special. They combine conceptual art with installation design in a small and open space so you can take things in as an experience. Even if you don't relate to contemporary art, they are always of a certain quality and interesting.

One last unique museum experience you can share with Datebook?

The Restaurant at The Getty Center at night. The museum is completely different from the Getty during the day and it shockingly wonderful how it's backlit. The way the moonlight hits the marble and the incredible views...you get the idea. The restaurant is a favorite and has a great wine list. Be sure to reserve the table in the corner by the window. It's a nice change of pace from the typical LA scene - a different tempo, feel. It won't disappoint you or your date.
